The Slippery Slope Towards Fascism
This morning, I cancelled my subscription to the Washington Post.
This was in reaction to Amazon billionaire and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos’ decision to not endorse any candidate for the presidential election.
The newspaper has always supported the more democratic candidate in a presidential election.
Now, Bezos appears to have caved in to the reality of a possible Trump presidency and the impact that this would have on his empire.
“This is cowardice, a moment of darkness that will leave democracy as a casualty”, said Marty Baron, former Washington Post Executive editor.
Indeed, the once-revered Washington Post that brought down Richard Nixon has now gone down on Donald Trump.
Many Post staffers and editorial writers have resigned in protest, and thousands have already joined me in abandoning a once great newspaper.
This is the first step in the slippery slope towards fascism.
Donald Trump has often said that on day one, he will be a dictator.
He has announced publicly that he will persecute and prosecute any media organization or political leader who opposes him regardless of legal technicalities.
He has said that he will replace the military high command with officers personally loyal to him, and that he will order them to arrest and imprison his opponents.
He has indicated that the constitution is there for the plucking, and that its prescriptions will be tossed aside in order to provide him with absolute power.
He already controls the Supreme Court and many judges at all levels of the judiciary – all willing to do his bidding.
Many police organizations have come out in favor of his candidacy, as well as the border police who will enforce his draconian measures to deal with illegal immigrants.
His most prominent supporter is billionaire Elon Musk, who seems to regularly transit between Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Many on the intelligence community believe that Trump is Putin’s bitch and will do his bidding as he creates a fascist state in what once was the example of democracy.
Trump has often stated that he wants generals like those in North Korea or Nazi Germany who would do his bidding without question.
These are his goals, stated publicly and often.
When he can get major and formerly respected media organizations like the Washington Post and the New York Times to bend to his will, it seems to me that the game will be over if he wins on November 5th.
Many of his former close associates – some senior military officers – have come out publicly to accuse Trump of being a fascist and warning voters of what Trump will do if he wins.
In the 1920’s, Adolf Hitler announced to the world his vision of what Germany would be under this rule in his book Mein Kampf.
Many dismissed his rantings as the words of a mad man. The closer the election of 1933 came, the more the financiers, industrialists, and military high command said that they could control him.
They couldn’t.
They didn’t.
The results were catastrophic not only for Germany but for the world.
Today, Trump has shouted his intentions from the rooftops, and many who worked closely with him during his first term have expressed their fear of what a Trump presidency would mean in a second incarnation.
There are few who can control him, since he will wield all of the levers of power.
Sadly, his victory will not only will affect Americans, but everyone globally.
Trump as Putin’s puppet will alter geopolitics radically.
Putin will have accomplished his goal of global domination and the defeat of his major opponent without firing a shot.
Rather, U.S. voters will have proven to be his most effective weapon in his quest.
If this comes to be, then the United States faces a real threat of civil war.
The military will be divided between those who support Trump and those who support the constitution – between American who live in red states and those who live in blue.
The world is about to hit a wall of enormous proportions with consequences that could be devastating if the election goes wrong on November 5th.
And Americans will have only themselves to blame, since half of the electorate will have empowered this would-be dictator and will have handed him absolute power on a silver platter.
I hope that I am wrong.
Unfortunately,I think your predictions here are accurate.
I hope the American people are not as stupid as Trump thinks they are. I've no doubt that his win will be our loss. I can see Canada as the Ukraine to the United States when it becomes North America's Russia.
