Who Are We Becoming?

In 1954, Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev made an important observation when he took power in the former Soviet Union. In his view, the USSR didn’t need to invade the West. Rather, the Soviets could defeat the West from within by infiltrating our institutions with communist ideology and local agents and demoralizing voter confidence in their own culture.

Have they succeeded?

Yes and no.

No, communism is dead as a political issue except for North Korea, replaced by an axis of authoritarian states with Russia and China in the lead.

Yes, the Soviet plan, described in an article by David Volodzko  (Please click here to read) outlines how the Soviet goal was to delegitimize Western institutions and turn people against the Western model of governance.

This goal has been achieved and is now being implemented by Islamists focused on creating political jihad by using Western institutions and leaders to infiltrate, indoctrinate, and manipulate Western societies.

On Friday, a crowd of some fifteen thousand pro-Hamas demonstrators ran rampant through the streets of Malmo, Sweden (a hotbed of antisemitism), to prevent Eden Golan, Israel’s candidate in the Eurovision contest, from competing. She had to remain a prisoner of her hotel room and could only travel in the city with an escort of a hundred security agents.

The global demonstrations in support of Hamas terrorists and Islamist goals underscore the fact that many today have no real knowledge of geopolitics or Islamism. Their universities have been infiltrated by pro-Hamas professors, the university administrators cowed by the influence of Islamist demonstrators, and the streets bear testimony to this fact.

Many today lack confidence in their institutions of governance and in the Judeo-Christian values that underpin Western society. Indeed, they appear mesmerized by global Islamism, intifada, and jihad and its tenets.

Whole faculties have been taken over by sympathetic ideologues and they are calling into question the credibility of elite universities as centers for learning, pluralism, and critical thinking.

We are seeing national flags desecrated and replaced by Hamas and ISIS flags in western countries. Perversely, people carrying their national flag have been arrested, while those carrying the Iranian, ISIS and Palestinian flags are allowed to roam the streets. National monuments have been vandalized while police have stood idly by and watched, usually under orders to not provoke the situation.

In the United Kingdom and much of Europe, Islam has claimed a strong base for its goals of subverting Western values and institutions through the massive influx of migrants numbering in the millions who reject Western values and refuse to assimilate.  

A military force is not useful when the opposition is already within a country’s borders.

Demographics will replace military victory and terrorism as the Islamists’ weapon of choice.

On average, Muslims everywhere have six children for every two non-Muslims. It’s a matter of time unless the trend changes.

According to Peter and Alexandra Rostan from Emerald Insight research, if left unchecked, Muslim populations will be in the majority in Cyprus by 2085, Sweden by 2125, France by 2135, Greece by 2135, Belgium by 2130, and the UK by 2180. 

In parliamentary democracies, this is worrisome to many, since Muslims tend to congregate and vote as a bloc, allowing them to be effective pressure groups on political parties at election time. This is evident in Canada, where the government of Prime Minister Trudeau is acquiescing to Muslim sentiment for the sake of a few key riding required to win the election.

Recently, in the United Kingdom, Labour won a majority of city council seats and mayoralties across England. Pro-Gaza activists have dramatically issued a list of 18 demands (please click here to read them) to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and have threatened to withhold their support for his party at the next general election if he does not fulfil them. 

The Muslim Vote has called for the Labour leader to promise to cut military ties with Israel and allow followers of Islam to pray in school should he become prime minister.

It has also demanded he scrap a law that criminalises spiritual and religious leaders from instructing their congregation how to vote and it wants seven per cent of public sector pensions to be invested into 'ethical and Islamic funds'.

British Islamic scholar Anjem Chaudary has indicated on The X platform (formerly known as Twitter) his view that political jihad will succeed where terrorist jihad has its limitations. (Please click here to see the post).

Indeed, the mayors of London, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Sheffield, Oxford, Luton, Oldham, and Rochdale are Muslims.

All this was achieved by only 4 million Muslims out of 66 million people in England. They are in a position to fundamentally alter the complexion of Brisish society.

I am not anti-Muslim.

Indeed, a number of my former colleagues in the Canadian foreign service are Muslims, and have done a brilliant job in promoting Canadian values at home and abroad.

I am anti-Islamist.

I cannot support any movement that seeks to destroy the values that I respect and follow and that are fundamental to my country’s culture.

If Muslims or anyone of any background wants to emigrate to the West, that is fine by me.

However, when they come to fundamentally attack and change the values for which our societies stand, I draw the line.

Immigrants, and I am as son of immigrants, must be willing to integrate into our societies, educate their children with our values of equal rights for all, and respect our way of life. Otherwise, they should not be allowed to come.

Political leaders must ensure that immigration legislation is flexible enough to meet the economic needs of their country but strong enough to select only those who can demonstrate an ability and willingness to adapt to the country’s values and laws.

I know some will attack these views as being politically incorrect.

But I believe that political correctness must be replaced by common sense and with policies to which we all subscribe.

Protesting crowds in Western capitals, many made up of a majority of local citizens, are seen calling for sharia law to be implemented in place of our legal system, and Muslim governance institutions to replace democratic ones.

This underscores the power of Islamism in our societies — power gained without a single shot fired. Islamism’s growth comes from within our societies, inflitrated as they are and supported by our own apathy.

Indeed, it should be noted that only 40% of eligible voters cast ballots in London’s mayoralty election.

Western voters are creating the vacuum that Islamists are filling, and the results should drive us to action.

It is incumbent on all of us to accept the fact that our institutions are being challenged by many who would destroy them. Democracy demands responsibility to choose our leaders wisely and not simply to avoid voting out of apathy, anger or laziness.

We must tell our leaders who we are and what we expect from them.

We must demand that they defend who we are and propose policies that reflect our national interests and values and protect who we are becoming.

We must also demand that leaders put country ahead of party and national interest ahead of political or personal expediency.

Am I being alarmist?

I most certainly hope so.

I hope that we can all put an end to the scenarios described above.

But we must ensure that the policies that our governments pursue face the fact that there are those who would destroy our democratic values and institutions regardless of how politically incorrect this may be.

And, we must ensure that we all vote in elections at all levels of government to ensure that the results reflect the will of the majority.

Absent this, we may stand to lose our way of life and the very freedoms for which generations have fought and died.
