The main problem with Jean Charest is that he ran for the leadership of the conservative party which chose Poilievre instead. To this day, Charest remains a bit unpopular in Québec. However, if the situation Canada faces with Trump gets to the point that we need some form of national government that bridges federal party, Charest may well be the man for the situation.
The way I see it, the reason it could make sense is because Mr. Charest was always a Progressive Conservative, centrist who was successfully re-elected as a Liberal Premier in Quebec. Key is that he is not tainted by this government and while there’s no way the Liberals can get reelected at this point, he could make centrist voters think twice and perhaps help the Liberals avoid the annihilation they now face.
This is interesting. True, Charest is a progressive conservative who may appel to centriste libérale, but his ambition has always been to become a PM with the conservative party backing him. This would take a very high will to survive as a party for members of the federal liberal party to accept an outsider like Charest as their leader. I just do not see it happening now. But, these are no ordinary times…
You sure make a good case for this option. I hope you send Mr. Charest a copy of this, and while you're at it, why not make it a public letter just like Ms. Freeland's?

Let’s hope so! Merry Christmas!
