America Speaks
America has spoken, and the world is being dragged back to a time I would rather forget.
Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States, complete with a majority in Congress, a five million vote lead over his opponent, and ready to drag the country and, indeed, the world into a vast unknown.
A number of people with whom I have spoken wonder why the American voter is stupid enough to vote for a convicted rapist, swindler, coup leader, misogynist, and racist.
They miss the point.
While many shared my disdain for Trump and find him odious, as a person, many more voted not for Trump but against a Democratic platform that supported positions they felt went against their basic values.
They rejected Harris’s alliances with the far left of the Democratic Party at the expense of the vast center where elections are won.
These voters found the Democratic support for pro-Hamas students who have occupied universities and caused mayhem for over a year to remain unchecked by the party and the federal government.
They rejected the political correctness that appears to have replaced common sense as the major tool for governance.
This rejection of political correctness has found a strong voice globally and is reflected by the rise of nationalism over globalism. Voters want to protect their fundamental cultural values and don’t accept the current state of gender and religious politics.
They found Trump to be the lesser of two evils and voted accordingly.
What happens now?
Domestically, the United States will be governed by a cult of individuals who lack any expertise – people like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and others in his entourage who believe in conspiracy theories rather than scientific fact, who believe in the biblical pronouncements rather than in science, and only have regard for their own interests instead of those of the majority of Americans.
People who worship in the cult of Trump, who seek and now can now deify and crown him with absolute power and replace the rule of law with the rule of Trump.
Over two hundred and fifty years of slow and hesitant democratic development have led to this moment when it all appears to be coming unravelled.
Whose fault is it?
Analysts will spend much time analyzing the sources of Trump’s support and the reasons why they chose him.
Democratic leader Kamala Harris refused to come down on the radical left in her party that left centrist voters cold and disenfranchised.
The uneducated and the highly educated came together as the MAGA platform based on ignorance coupled with the elite students in the most advanced American universities to oppose the Biden administration and the Democratic ticket and contributed to the Democratic loss not only of the presidency but also of the Congress.
Ignorant conspiracy theorists like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stood alongside Trump with paragons of technology like Elon Musk – forming coalitions composed of contradictory forces supporting the same leader and platform.
Trump forged a coalition of the educated and the ignorant, of the powerful and the powerless, those who support him fully and those who simply protested against some element of the Democratic platform.
Whatever, the world is in for an extremely dangerous time.
Donald Trump is a proven vassal of Vladimir Putin and, as such, will drive American foreign policy to support Russia’s foreign policy interests.
Putin has wisely avoided congratulating Trump early on in his victory to avoid underscoring their symbiotic relationship.
NATO, USMCA, and other alliances will be in danger of destruction now that the sane voices that once surrounded Trump in his first term have disappeared, only to be replaced by sycophants whose first and only allegiance is to Trump and not the country.
Ukraine will be forced to submit to the will of Trump’s mentor Vladimir Putin.
The European Union will be forced to release Ukraine from the restrictions it has placed on that country’s ability to attack Russians directly where it hurts.
The EU will have to assume the defence of Europe without counting on U.S. support and will simply have to grow up and take matters into their own hands.
Hungary’s Orban and Turkey’s Erdogan, two major Trump supporters and imitators, will continue to do Trump’s bidding in weakening NATO and the EU in support of Russian foreign policy objectives.
The United Nations will be targeted since American taxpayers refuse to fund an organization that is anti-American at its core and defends all kinds of regimes that oppose American values and policies.
On the U.S.’s northern border, Canada’s would-be Trump, Pierre Poilievre, will now be even more strengthened as he runs against a hapless Justin Trudeau in Canada in 2025.
Trudeau has led a scandal plagued government for the past few years, and his ministers appear to be incompetent at best.
His catering to the extreme left of Canadian politics resembles the Democratic Party’s policy in the U.S., and his government’s pursuit of identity politics over common sense is leading to a significant defeat at the polls next year.
Canada’s Conservative Party has moved far to the right and is highly influenced and advised by American Republican advisors. It is still beholden to former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, a Trump acolyte and President of the International Democratic Union – highly penetrated by Trumpians who serve the President-elect’s agenda.
A large majority in Parliament together with a constitutional notwithstanding clause that allow the government to circumvent Supreme Court decisions result in a government with absolute power enabled and modeled after its southern neighbor.
On its southern border, Mexico’s President Claudia Scheinbaum, herself now enjoying absolute dictatorial powers, will have a free hand to consolidate her war on democracy with no opposition from liberal Washington.
With a transactional Trump presidency devoid of any pretence of supporting democracy anywhere, Scheinbaum may well submit to the art of the deal on drugs and illegal migration in return for support for her absolute hold on power.
By 2025, North America could be an autocratic region firmly in the grip of Washington and Trump’s vision of the world, united not only by political philosophy but be a realistic fear of American control over their economies.
French, German, and other right-wing opposition parties in Europe will also feel empowered, and their messages of rabid nationalism could well prevail under a Trumpian world order.
Russia’s Vladimir Putin has now achieved his geopolitical objectives without firing a single shot. American voters have given him this absolute victory, and Trump will implement the policies that meet with Putin’s wishes and ensure a tectonic shift in global geopolitics.
Domestically, the war on women will reach new heights as Trump and his administration now have the absolute judicial and congressional power to control women’s bodies and ensure that they now become second-class citizens with far fewer rights than they have today.
Education will be refashioned to ensure that future generations of Americans are deprived of fact-based education, replaced by the indoctrination that MAGA will force upon students and educators if they can now be called that.
There will be no institutional or constitutional opposition capable of putting the brakes on the Trump cult’s policies.
The opposition media will be among Trump’s first targets and controlling the free media and perhaps eliminating it his first goal.
Trump already has his vast propaganda machine in place, including X, owned by ally Elon Musk. Trump is already a master of social media and will use this to effectively control the political conversation.
Trump is now empowered to implement his politics of revenge as he has promised to do so on day one of his presidency,
No one can stop him.
This is a victory for the rule of might over the rule of right.
Am I exaggerating my predictions of doom and gloom?
I will leave that to each of you and history to decide.
Unfortunately, Trump’s first term provides an actual roadmap for the direction in which his administration is headed.
And that roadmap is scary indeed.
Absolutely terrifying! As you correctly say it is a huge mistake by the democrats not to have made a Democratic election of its candidate to the presiden y after Biden quit!
Thank you for your article, Eduardo! I have to reread it again trying to find meaning in this situation. You are very eloquent and you come to the point. For now, I make peace in coming to one conclusion: if he would have lost, he would have made our lives very difficult for at least a year. Confusing as it is: We have come to a point where humanity MUST seriously get out of our comfort zone and fight for sense and sensibility.
