Just like everyone else, I was stunned by Biden's poor performance at the debate. I frankly thought he looked over-sedated. His transformation the following day made me wonder even more about that. As for replacing him, unless there's been some sudden serious change in his health (and the next-day performance would suggest not), the Dems would look kind of foolish, wouldn't they? There may well be another valid candidate, but none with Joe's experience. And unlike Trump, Biden listens to others (not only for how they can make his warped ambitions come true), so, hopefully, those new contenders are being groomed by being given the opportunity to speak their minds and being exposed to what it takes to be President.
I agree it is a complicated situation. But remember there is a whole mass of undecided voters who hate Trump but aren't ready to vote for Biden after his debate performance. This is the group of voters a substitute candidate like Buttigeig ot Gavin Newsome could well attract with great policies and youthful honesty as opposed to the Donald. Let's see what Biden and his wife decide!
I think both parties are sclerotic. Both need injections of youth and new ideas, goals, and strategies in order to return the US to its previous glory.
right on Eddy! as usual. I watched 3/4 of the "debate" and could not stand it anymore... And your point on CNN is kind, I would say worse things... what a ridiculous set up! They just gave Trump a forum to reach his audience.
Eduardo, I agree with you once again. Trump is clearly ahead.
I turned it off after 45 minutes. How many times can you ask a question and listen to Trump repeat how great he is, and not answer? It was too much! At least Biden answered questions. I thought CNN and the hosts were ok, I didn't think they were so awful because Trump was contained. A minute of talking and that was it!! Thank god. And they showed the number of times they had to repeat the question to get a response from Trump.
It was dreadful, and the world saw it all! ( And I heard Biden was campaigning today- so he’s not going away!)
Many thanks Mickey. Yes, Biden was on fire yesterday in North Carolina. But it is sporadic. First impressions are important, and the impression he gave during the debate was that he is just not up to another four years in office. So there the decision for the average voter is do they want to vote for President Kamala Harris. And I don't think that she has the popularity in the US to win that contest.
Eduardo you called it well. Trump looked in control and made his points well. They were mostly lies but they were clear. Biden seemd unsure of his points and sounded like he was trying to remember a set script. But CNN did exactly as they were supposed to in letting the debaters show themselves. It was up to Biden to call the lies and he did not. Again and again Biden showed us his weakness . And the camera work was perfect in showing Trump for what he is. Say what you will about Harris but she got it exactly right in saying it was Biden's performance over the past 3 1/2 years that we should weigh against the Trump we saw last night
Hi Don, welcome to In the Crosshairs. Harris gave a good defence of Biden's presidency, and, I agree his administration has been a model of good governance. But his performance brought to the fore a major issue: can he survive another term in office? If not, Harris would become president. She is not at all as popular as Biden among voters and could she win an election that basically pits President Harris against Trump? I don't think that she as the electoral strength. All the best!
Buttigeig may be an interesting choice. But is being mayor of South Bend and with barely 2 years in the Senate enough to be a serious contender? I have some doubts. You may wish to have l look at some other potential candidates such as Gavin Newsom (California) [by the way, he was at the debate last night], J.B. Pritzer (Michigan), Gretchen Wilmer (Colorado), Jared Polis, and Joe Shapiro, who all seem to have more impressive credentials to be considered. I do no think that any should be a shoe-in , including Buttigeig.
Hi François, I Iagree that Buttigieg is not the only option. And the other five are very good. Buttigieg just happens to be my personal choice. None would be a shoo-in, but Biden may well not survive another term and the choice for voters if Biden remains on the ticket would actually be for President Harris, and she is not at all that popular with the majority of US voters. Let's see what the fates decide! Have a great day!
Indeed. To the point. Exactly what we were concluding this morning. There is a candidate who might also be great: Dean Phillips. Not sure if the Americans are ready for a gay President.....

You nailed that one! Is there ay hope , or is the party as old and feeble as president ?

Many thanks Yurima. It was a disaster from which Biden cannot recover-- nor CNN and the two pathetic co-hosts!

So who is really governing?
That is the $64,000 question.

Pathetic performance of Biden, Trump and CNN! I had a schock! USA a Great example for the World in the hands of senility and craziness!
Indeed. It makes me wonder about the future of humanity!

I think they may be. in 2008 people were asking if Americans were ready for a black president and along came Obama....
