Sadly, I have to agree with many of your points. The contest and conflict between individual rights, and the rights of the polity have never been clearer, and, as I see it, individual rights have taken over far too much of the field. The community itself has rights, and the individual has certain duties. These latter have been neglected and sacrificed on the altar of individual rights.
Many thanks Jim. I agree that when every thing is a right with no corresponding duties a society suffers the kinds of consequences we are suffering now!
Eduardo, much of what you have written is true. However, I want to highlight some of the accomplishments by the Trudeau Government. We have the child care benefit which has had a positive impact in job creation and economic growth. The PM has supported progressive measures in favour of the environment. Even if we still have a lot to do, the Trudeau Government has been making progress towards Indigenous People.
Indeed. But Canadians aren’t impressed seeing as the Libs are 20 points behind the Cons. The sight of Trudeau dancing at a food fair in Totonto last night and taking selfies underscores the views of many that he is a narcissistic diletente and out of tune with the public mood.
I fully agree. Canadians have to make a choice between a narcissistic diletente and a toxic leader who doesn't have any moral compass. Unfortunately the choices among leaders of the day are very limited.
Yes. I have been thinking along the same lines. There are changes that are too radical to be considered Canadian- or maybe “I’ve lost that loving feeling.”
I think we could make a similar list of the faults and dumb moves by many other governments which time seems to forget. But it will hard to forget the economic turmoil this government has put us in. The NDP/Liberal coalition has created this mess and it is a big mistake. The options are limited and this Conservative Party is not the same as it used to be but hopefully it can at least start to lead us out of this hole. PP was not my choice for the leader but I don’t think we can criticize him for only having experience in government. Plenty of us have our life experience in only government and I think that has been a pretty good base.
The good thing about democracy is there is a choice and when things go badly we can fix it.

Indeed. We are adrift on a sea of doubts!
