You’ve brought very good points. The problem of the AirBandB, is way bigger than I imagined! And revising the point system for new immigrants so that it goes with our realities may be a good step. Slowing it down might be better to allow for adjustment and absorption. To allow for schools and the education system to clean up their acts and ensure the curriculum us taught, as an example.

PS You miss addressing the Chinese component to this crisis… Chinese nationals are immigrating into Canada in droves they are buying houses in cash and paying top dollar… therefore driving housing prices behond any affordability for common Canadians …

Please do not easily clump the Chinese with

common immigrants … because they are not… the Chinese are awash with cash.. and they are making a real impact on the housing market .. and by the way…do mention them by name… because I have noticed… that they are mostly referred to in vague references and rarely by their name …CHINESE..

Many thanks. Agree the Chinese are playing a role in the rise of housing costs in Canada. Sole local governments are legislating to mitigate their investments.

I deeply sympathise. Starting employment in 1983 with what is now Global Affairs I could barely afford housing for myself & two children (even with minimal child support). Since then housing affordability has become out of the question for the average worker & it’s only worsening. What is the answer when the cost of all basic necessities is based on greed of the providers?

Change the system, limit immigration, ban housing as an investment, and ensure that people have the income necessary to afford basic housing. All the best!

Many supply demand factors affecting housing affordability are correctly identified but the main one of income deficiency at lower levels remains the main one not often discussed.only a guaranteed annual income above the poverty level replacing the welfare disability poverty level income levels can really assure housing for all. I have 3 tenants on welfare disability paying all below market rates who could not find equivalent housing in the market now. This is a reality for millions having to pay well above the 30-40% of gross income to vover housing costs who cannot get into the market.

Many thanks George. Indeed, available income is a determining factor in obtaining housing. Sad!
